Your greatest career edge isn’t hidden in a strategy deck—it’s built in your muscles, your mind, and your movement. In Work Stronger, Dr. Adam Hickman and Dr. Michael Finamore reveal how resistance band training can sharpen focus, regulate stress, and build resilience in ways that directly elevate professional performance.

Drawing from neuroscience, psychology, and leadership research, they connect physical strength to mental clarity and emotional regulations, showing how short bouts of movement can release dopamine, serotonin, and BDNF to rewire your brain for calm focus and sustained energy.

With practical tools, real stories, and the Four Pillars of Strength—Movement, Mindset, Nutrition, and Recovery—you’ll learn how to design your week for resilience, lead with composure, and create team cultures that thrive under pressure.

You don’t need a gym. You need a band, a plan, and the decision to start.

Adam Hickman

Adam Hickman, Ph.D. is not your typical student who graduated high school and then went to college to land the dream job of his life. His story has more twists and turns than many would come to expect. However, his life lessons are why he has chosen the profession of serving others. He holds a doctorate in organizational development, a master's degree in management, and master's of business administration in global leadership. He has over 75 publications that have been read world-wide. Adam is a dynamic, hands-on, highly technical leader with a wealth of knowledge and experience building education, training, and organizational development programs. He champions complex projects in research and development that uncover the need for continuing education and training throughout the organization. By his expertise in qualitative research, he has a record of gaining insights into program deficiencies through analysis and the examination of results. Adam serves as an expert in remote and hybrid work. He serves his clients with in-depth knowledge of the research he has conducted as a scholar and practitioner on managing remote workers and the effects of workplace isolation. For more than 15 years, Adam has used measurement, recognition, and forecasting to align business outcomes. He serves as a mentor to Ph.D. and DBA candidates and a coach to those considering conducting research.

Michael Finamore

Dr. Michael Finamore is a board-certified cardiothoracic anesthesiologist and Chair of Cardiothoracic Anesthesia at Bel-Park Anesthesia Associates. A graduate of Ohio University's Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine, he completed his anesthesiology residency at West Penn Allegheny Health System and a fellowship in cardiothoracic anesthesiology at the Cleveland Clinic.

Throughout his career, Dr. Finamore has combined clinical expertise with leadership, serving on the Executive Committee at Bel-Park Anesthesia Associates, directing strategic operations, and developing perioperative protocols that enhance patient care and efficiency. His research and presentations span topics from malignant hyperthermia management to innovative approaches in cardiac anesthesia, with publications in the American Journal of Case Reports and Anesthesia & Analgesia.

In addition to his clinical and academic contributions, Dr. Finamore is co-author of Work Stronger and a keynote presenter on the intersection of health, resilience, and professional performance. Recognized with honors, including Northeast Ohio Medical University's Outstanding Clinical Educator Award and Cleveland Clinic's Best Clinical Fellow Award, he continues to advance both the science and culture of anesthesiology.

He is married and the proud father of two daughters.

"Work Stronger provides a blueprint to reach your full potential. Our reminder was One play at a time, One day at a time. Work Stronger teaches that One Rep, One Breath, One Choice = championship performance. Let's GO!!"
Jim Tressel, 67th Lieutenant Governor of Ohio
Former Head Coach of The Ohio State University and Youngstown State University

"If you are skeptical about resistance bands and this is your introduction to Variable Resistance, you're entering a legacy from Dick Hartzel and Louie Simmons to Dr. John Jaquish. Men who have shared the most powerful training tool since the barbell."
Craig Bongelli, Director of Education: Westside Barbell - X3 Academy

"Leading through crisis and disruption is a core C-suite priority that CEOs value tremendously for good reason: employee burnout and disengagement cost companies' real money in lost productivity and time. Work Stronger, a career performance playbook, helps you, the reader and leader-manager, conquer stress and burnout and build new muscle around agility, adaptability, and change readiness. It provides a simple yet complete system to rewire your brain, regulate stress, and become more physically fit in minutes a day, resulting in healthier work-life-family balance and career performance. A must-read for well-informed business owners, senior executives, and emerging leaders alike."
Paul Falcone, Former CHRO, Nickelodeon Animation Studios and author of The Paul Falcone Workplace Leadership Series
