Writing in the Digital Age: Using Video Content for Learning in the Visual World

Author(s):  Katherine Kuta
Summary:

Writing in the Digital Age: Using Video Content for Learning in the Visual World provides the opportunity for the reader to understand how communication has evolved in the digital age.

As our society increasingly leans on visual content, specifically video, we must adapt our learning for the present. Roughly 70% of the population are visual learners now. From board room presentations to short-form social media, the future applications of writing in the visual world are endless.
This book is a resource primarily for students and teachers that features lessons and real-world video examples of high-interest commentaries, commercials and stories that model traditional writing skills for the modern communicator.

Inside you will find 16 Modules (mini lessons) that cover lessons on traditional writing such as attention getters, thesis/main idea, transitions, evidence as well as types of writing - explanatory, persuasive, or narrative. Each module contains live links to videos that serve as examples of the writing skill that it mirrors. There are also critical thinking questions that accompany each video.

Throughout the modules, there are terms colored in orange as a way for the brain to focus on the key lesson, directions, and questions.

Modules Include:

  • Module 0 Test of Observational Skills
  •  Modules 1 – 10 Parts of an Essay
  •  Modules 11 – 14 Types of Writing: Explanatory, Descriptive, Narrative, Definition, and Persuasive
  • Modules 15 and 16 Tone and Grammar
