I didn't understand that, over the years, all the traumatic things that had happened to me were affecting my brain, which in turn affected my thinking, my feelings, and my behaviors. Not to be redundant, but again, until someone tells you there is something seriously wrong, you don't know. And I was ignorant of all of this. I only knew I was in pain, and I had to get rid of it-in whatever way I could. Of course, these were temporary fixes. Addictions in general are all ways we run away from the source of our pain. Relationships. Alcohol. Drugs. Burying ourselves in work. Substances of all kinds. Escapes. Codependency at full throttle. And I was entering into my own Fast and Furious video-without the car. I had my own private Grand Prix taking place.

And the whispering voice I had come to know so well... was encouraging me at every step.

This is the story of a woman who continually sought after the dream of her knight in shining armor. But something always went wrong. Instead of a hero, she found herself choosing destructive and abusive relationships. Dismissing those who may have been a better choice. Always wanting to change. Always hoping to change. But with no one to help her get off the merry-go-round.

Until one day, her world is turned upside down. In an unlikely place, in unlikely circumstances, she meets her shining knight. And even though she is unaware of needing it, she soon realizes ... her rescue is on!
