Omni Design Ecosystem: The Art of Designing for All
Author(s): Rico Ruffino
Summary:
Omni Design Ecosystem is an ethically and holistically focused organic approach to the problem-solving process in designing for all. Omni Design Ecosystem is an active, creative problem-solving process in stewardship for all products, processes, and systems that are not only human-centered but ecological and entity traversing. It is a proactive procedure to design versus a reactive, where the end and rebirth are first and last. This statement means that the Omni Design Ecosystem is a design method that starts at the inception, and it is considered not only for the user but also for the environment and all organisms that inhabit it with longevity in mind. Longevity in terms of the design and the environment that the design impacts.
Designing objects commonly focuses on the needs of the problem. People would make products or systems to serve a purpose, which is to make our lives easier. Then, we realized the need to focus on who uses the products, how the product is used, and what problems could arise when in use. Now we realize some of our products need to be more suitable for the environment, and we have no real plan to combat this from the beginning. Environmental concerns lead to the creation of additional systems to offset this issue. This is more of a reactive approach, and we need to figure out what to do before the products are in our marketplace. The following text will illustrate a strategy for ethically designing products and systems that will benefit the user, the environment, and the manufacturer. To create a better world, we must build awareness, make sustainable choices, assess the life cycle, and design sustainably from conception.
