Sociology in Practice: An Applied Introduction is an engaging and application-focused introductory sociology textbook designed to help students connect sociological concepts to the real world. Blending foundational theory with contemporary social issues and practical examples, the text encourages students to critically examine the institutions, interactions, and inequalities that shape everyday life.

Written with accessibility and student engagement in mind, the book presents core sociological topics—including culture, socialization, research methods, social structure, inequality, race and ethnicity, gender, deviance, and social institutions—in a way that is both academically rigorous and approachable for introductory learners. Applied learning features, critical thinking opportunities, and real-world connections are integrated throughout the text to support classroom discussion and deeper understanding.

Designed for use in community colleges, technical colleges, and universities, Sociology in Practice aims to make sociology meaningful, relevant, and practical for today’s students while helping them better understand themselves and the rapidly changing social world around them.
