One of my greatest joys was reading to our two daughters even before they could read. There were many books that they enjoyed having read to them, and many books that were great to read for my wife and me. All of the children's books had whimsical stories and colorful illustrations that completed the experience. The best of these books were not only entertaining but also presented a foundation for a life lesson or two.

I hope Aunt Binny and the Carpenter Ants will be a book parents and their children will like to read. It's a story about family, teamwork, and most of all kindness. It's the kind of book I would have liked to have read to my children.

I hope this book brings you and your children many happy bedtimes!

Barry Dirks

Barry grew up in a home where storytelling played a prominent role. His dad, in particular, always seemed to have an endless supply of stories. Barry loved hearing a good story, and as he grew up, he loved telling one.

When his two children were young, Barry and his wife would read stories to them as part of their bedtime.

Barry earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Carnegie Mellon University and his MBA in marketing from NYU.

Barry’s career included marketing, advertising, and product development for large companies, startups, not for profits, and small entrepreneurial companies. In retrospect, marketing and advertising are “short stories” about a product or service.

Barry was a standup comic in New York City and a featured storyteller in Dallas.

Writing has always been a passion for Barry, and this love of writing continues to this day.

Barry is an adjunct professor in business at Collin College and The University of North Texas Frisco. Barry incorporates storytelling in his classes.

Barry and his wife, Karen, live in Allen, Texas with their two cats. They are proud first time grandparents.
