In N.W. Freeman's inaugural work, the reader is transported to the landscape of Fiji during WWII through a series of poems and nonfiction histories, inspired by childhood conversations with a grandfather who served with the Allies in the South Pacific. Papo's storytelling is woven into a dark and perilous dream with lingering nostalgia for Kubla Khan. The journey then travels to the mystical desert of New Mexico, uncovering a series of magical realist short stories, built from spiritual and chilling encounters with the natural world after the family's southern migration. The hauntings of war, with its subterranean lineage, permeate the fictions of the descendants from the Theater of the Pacific.

N.W. Freeman

N.W. Freeman is a North American experimental writer who examines the peculiar and mystifying insight derived from psychotic process, biological details, and introspection. As a nomadic person, the uncertainty of migrating between places of extremes permits astonishment, for one discovers hints along the way.

"In this work, dream world relics of WWII translocate inner battles and human violence into larger philosophical questions about time, community and culture. The hazy aftermath of loss and hypervigilant danger leave behind shards of wisdom, which are scattered with light."

--A. Morrison, Ed.D., ABD, educator, researcher, and author of Something in Common: An Exploration into the Experiences of Women as Lifelong Learners and The Effects of Neurolinguistic Skills Training on Sales and Recruiting Productivity for Mary Kay Beauty Consultants.

"In this tribute to valor and human loss, N.W. Freeman avoids glamourizing violence, speaking truth into the moral injury that surfaces in the difficult decisions of war. The intergenerational shockwaves of trauma are juxtaposed with what remains of the beauty of the world. And buckle-up for some hilarious and bizarre scenes, while you're at it!"

-- C. Stephen Ball, MBA, entrepreneur and author of The Rule of Thirds, The Voice in the Next Room, The Business of Behavior, The Last Building Standing, and Where Leaders are Built.
